Critical and Cultural Studies

(Specific undergraduate programmes only)

For many (but not all) Undergraduate Programmes in the School of Creative Arts, Critical and Cultural Studies (C&CS) modules constitute one quarter of your studies at every level.

Critical and Cultural studies modules aims to give you a critical insight into the cultural, historical and commercial environments in which art, design and media practice takes shape. What you do in the studio, the art, design, film and digital media you see around you are all shaped by what artists, designers, historians, curators and cultural critics have done in the recent past. By providing you with an insight into recent and contemporary ideas that underpin your subject, we aim to give you a better understanding of the professional world you inhabit and provide you with the academic resources necessary to succeed on your programme and in your professional lives. The skills you acquire as part of the Critical and Cultural Studies modules are much sought after by employers.

It should be noted that where a Programme includes the C&CS Final Year Degree Essay, the grade obtained is considered very important and will be included in determining classification.
